Why Make Dua?

Spiritual and physical aspects of dua':

A question was asked of me about dua' in another forum and I thought about besides the narration from our messenger of Allah. Here is my Summary:

From Messenger of Allah (PBUH):

Allah accepts all dua's made with sincerity. You may see it in different ways:

  1. You may get exactly what you asked for.
  2. Allah may avert some misfortune that may have come to you.
  3. He will reward you in the hereafter.

Note that Allah says in the Qur'an:

Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.

Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 216

So, we may want something and Allah knows it is not good for us, he may not give it to us and give you any of the things mentioned above.

Here is the Hadith from Messenger of Allah:

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is no Muslim who calls upon Allah, without sin or cutting family ties, but that Allah will give him one of three answers: He will quickly fulfill his supplication, He will store it for him in the Hereafter, or He will divert an evil from him similar to it.” They said, “In that case we will ask for more.” The Prophet said, “Allah has even more.” Musnad Ahmed (Sahih)

Coming to the physical aspects of it:

1. Know that Allah will not break His laws for your dua' unless you are in the category of Messengers, Prophets and Saints.

2. If you are fighting an enemy and as one of our Sheik says, if you ask Allah to cause enemy's guns and cannons to rot, unlikely it will happen.

3.Dua' gives you a sense of peace and contentment and you get busy with taking the action.

4.Dua' psychologically causes you to remember and acts as a reminder for action and not look away from you.

5. Dua' gives you courage and will give you strength knowing that your creator has your back.

And Allah knows best.
