All praise and thanks to Allah and He is suffice (for us)

and peace be upon His servant Mohammed (Sallalahu Alaihi wa Sallam) whom He chose.

The Qur'an is a book of knowledge and wisdom. This is where our Creator is telling us how to live our lives. We recite parts of it in our salah. Understanding what we are reciting in our prayers and implementing it in our lives is critical. We need to learn enough Arabic to understand what our Creator is telling us and practice it. We do not have to be an Arabic or the Qur'an scholar but need to know enough to understand the only connection we have with Allah Subha-nahu wa Ta'ala.

Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Love the Arabic Language because I am an Arab and Qur'an is in Arabic and language of people of Jannah is Arabic."

Omar bin Khattab (RA) said: "Learn Arabic because it is from your religion" (reported by Ibn Abi Shaybah).

Imam al-Shafi'ee (RA) said (from Irshaad ul Fuhool): "It is obligatory upon every Muslim to learn from the Arabic language what allows him to make an effort in fulfilling his obligations."

Ibn Taimiyyah (RA) said, "For the Arabic language itself is from the religion, knowing it is an obligation because understanding the Book and Sunnah is an obligation. And (the religion) cannot be understood except by understanding the Arabic language, and that without which an obligation can not be fulfilled is itself obligatory. So then it is obligatory upon everyone individually, and from it is a collective obligation". (al-Iqtidaa).

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whoever says [something] about the Qur'an without knowledge, then let him take his seat in the Fire."

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Every Prophet was given miracles because people believed, but what I have been given is Divine Inspiration, which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will outnumber the followers of the other Prophets on the Day of Resurrection.

Learning Arabic will also help you understand the traditions (ahadith), which is the second most crucial part of our faith after the Qur'an. Messenger of Allah alaihi assalatu wassalam also said: "I am leaving you two things which if you hold on to, you will never be defeated and destroyed, the Qur'an and my traditions."
